Cashmere Care Guide

HOW TO KEEP YOUR CASHMERE BEAUTIFUL FOREVER

For LOVEM, sustainability primarily means that your favorite pieces last and accompany you for years. To keep your LOVEM pieces as soft and cozy as on day one, we have put together this simple guide for you.

(1) DE-PILL: GENTLE CARE AGAINST KNOTS

Pilling is not a sign of poor quality, but a natural process in high-quality natural fibers. The small knots usually form in areas exposed to friction.

  • Our tip: Use a special cashmere comb or carefully remove them by hand.

  • Good to know: After the first washes, the fibers usually stabilize, and pilling significantly reduces.

(2) CLEANING

You can clean your cashmere items well in the machine if you follow a few rules:

  • Program: Select the wool or hand wash cycle (cold wash, max. 20 degrees).

  • Detergent: Be sure to use a special wool detergent.

Important: Avoid spinning and fabric softener to protect the delicate fibers.

(3) DRY: DRY FLAT INSTEAD OF HANGING

Cashmere is delicate when wet. To preserve the shape of your item:

  • Flat Dry: Lay the garment flat on a clean towel on a level surface.

  • Maintain shape: Gently reshape the item, but do not overstretch it.

  • No-Go: Never tumble dry or hang on a hanger, as the knit will stretch out.

(4) REFRESHING WITH A STEAMER

Cashmere doesn't really like direct heat. But if your item is wrinkled, use a steamer. The hot steam refreshes the fibers, makes them really soft again, and even removes odors – often saving you from a full wash!

If you don't have a steamer and need to use an iron: Set it to the lowest setting (wool) and be sure to place a cotton cloth between the iron and the garment. Glide very gently and without pressure over the cloth so that the fine hairs are not flattened.

(5) STORAGE

To keep your knitwear perfectly in shape, LOVEM has two rules: Never hang cashmere on hangers and store your favorite pieces loosely folded in a drawer or box to prevent wrinkles.

Beware of moths: Unfortunately, they love high-quality cashmere just as much as we do. To give them no chance, it's best to store your items only freshly aired or washed (skin flakes attract moths). A sachet of lavender or cedarwood in the closet works wonders and keeps moths away.
